I needed to clear a lot of trees for a new home we are building. I was primarily pushing the trees over with my CAT 323. I found pushing to be difficult in. Too hard of a contact could snap off the upper parts of the tree sending them crashing down onto the cab. Place the bucket easily and the push, don't slam. try to use the teeth for grip into the tree bark. The backside of the bucket could slip aside of the tree. Good luck!
You can dig them out with a 10,000 lb. excavator in 4 days easy enough, just leave the tree whole and dig around it then push it over. Pile it to the side w/thumb and move to the next one. Then take tractor w/ grapple and clean up. No doubt whatsoever removing stumps, especially for big trees, is way easier on the machine and operator by pushing the whole tree over at once and using its own weight for the stump uprooting process. Does anyone here have experience pushing down a number of trees with an excavator, like 100 or more trees averaging 10-12 inches diameter, over a half acre?
