The good news, is I've let the digger out six times in a row not without any problems at all. The leaking valve dosn't seem to get get worse, at least not that I've noticed now. I bought an old Pel Job LB12 mini digger. Its old, its battered and rusty but it starts well enough, lifts on the blade and the boom/arm seems to do what its meant to. Couple of small leaks to sort out, the pre-warm doesn't work (add separate circuit for it) and I need to change the tracks to the slightly less worn ones that came with it too.I have just bought a pel job EB506 (1997) with Perkins engine.
