It sounds to me that the drive motors are trying to drive but they can't move when the brake is applied. The noise you hear is the hydraulic oil returning to the tank, from the drive motor, over relief. The relief is designed to work this way and is usually adjustable.
When we first acquired the skid steer we had this issue and were able to track it down to the alternator having been rewired incorrectly. It was not charging the battery. We would jumper the machine to get it started which put a brief charge on the battery and by doing so would bring the battery voltage above 12 volts.

Unloaded a load, then went 1/2 mile to next field, boom will lift and tilt empty, but as soon as you try to lift a bale, it won't lift.
