If you have the hydraulics of a skid steer (or other machinery, like a tractor) to take advantage of, then these are the plans for you. These plans create a seriously high powered horizontal log cutter that is easy to tow and take with you anywhere you need cutting power. I built a splitter for my skid steer last summer,and I figured Id put the pictures up here for everyone to see.I wanted a splitter that would split the big stuff into manageable pieces,I dont need to split wood down to firewood size as I dont split below 12" wood.Also I figured if I could split as I load my dump trailer,it may save a little time..I built a very simple one,its pretty . Using my new improved homemade Skid Steer Log Splitter. I also use my homemade Grapple Bucket to clean up the area. This is what is used out at the farm, hooked up to a Case Skid steer. Works pretty good taking out about any tree that needs to be removed. (photo taken from Kubota website.) Ours is a home made setup. The blade is the only thing that was bought and I don't remember what the steel is. Can you make it convertible to wedge up OR wedge down? Maybe customize the skid steer mounting plate. BTW I use a 3pt log splitter on my tractor with the wedge up. I cam lower the splitter to the ground and simply roll the really big pieces unto the splitter. This could work on the skid steer as well.
I am working on my latest attachment which is a Hydraulic Brush Cutter. The main gearbox and the blades are brand new from ebay. The gearbox is made for a pto shaft that is a 1 to 1.98 up ratio. I built a grapple utility bucket from components for a utility grapple bucket originally designed for small skid steer loaders that our company produces. I built my own quick attach plates after getting the top clevis and JD dealer.
