Never owned one before but have ran a few Cats. What models and brands does everyone like? We want a mid size one that will lift at least a ton. Will probably get one with enclosed cab, two speed, and aux hydraulics. Heavily leaning toward a Cat 242- 256 2013 or newer. Thinking about getting a new skid steer, either a bobcat s590 or a jd 318. I have never ran a jd but have a good dealer, also a good dealer for bobcat..currently have a bobcat. Which one would you pick? Deere may have changed that now, but the first ones were obscenely loud. Called a friend on my cell phone inside the cab. He couldn't hear the engine when it was floored, but he thought the alarm bell was too loud over the phone! Had a 329D and currently have a Cat 287D. The cat with the MTL undercarriage will ride superior to the deere machine and will also go about 3 mph faster iirc. The MTL undercarriage will cost a bit more in maintenance but having both machines I will not go back to a standard undercarriage.
